Swedish design studio Interesting Times Gang designed the Kelp collection, a collection of 3D printed chairs made of recycled fishing nets.

Each year, thousands of fishing nets are discarded in the Baltic Sea alone. Becoming so-called ghost nets, they continue to capture fish and other aquatic life. Fishing nets are often made of nylon, which doesn’t naturally biodegrade for a very long time.

Interesting Times Gang created a 3D printing material made of recycled fishing nets and wood fibre, a recycled FSC-certified bi-product from the saw mill industry in Sweden and a part of Stora Ensos bio-composite offering. The design of the chairs is inspired by nature, featuring waving lines and swaying silhouettes of kelp and seaweed.
