MaterialDistrict

MaterialDistrict Expo: Super Skins

MaterialDistrict will be present at ARCHITECT@WORK in Rotterdam Ahoy on September 11 and 12, 2024. With the material exhibition “Super Skins,” the materials platform presents the latest innovations and trends in the architecture and design world, focusing on materials for surface design. The exhibition showcases an impressive collection of 120 inspiring material samples and six unique mock-ups that push the boundaries of architectural design.

Overview of the latest material innovations
The MaterialDistrict exhibition provides an overview of the latest material innovations focusing on both sustainability and aesthetics. The exhibition highlights a wide range of applications, from facade cladding to interior finishes, with special attention to recycled and biobased materials. Examples such as Clean Air City Ceramics, which transforms air pollution into ceramic glazes, and Geo Slate, made from quarry waste, demonstrate the impact of these innovations.

Materials such as Cellular The Breathing Facade Tile, which integrates air algae, and MyCera, a mycelium-based composite, illustrate the versatility and forward-looking nature of modern architecture. Also, Gradient Nazka Panels, 3D-printed from bio-based polyamide, offer a flexible and aesthetically appealing design that can be tailored to specific project needs.

World premiere: Aectual Custom Façade Skin for BOSS
One of the highlights of the exhibition is the world premiere of the Aectual Custom Façade Skin. This 3D-printed facade cladding, made from recycled polypropylene and specially designed for BOSS, combines sustainability with innovative textile patterns. The panels are fully circular: after use, they can be returned, shredded, and reprinted.

In addition to this premiere, MaterialDistrict is also exhibiting mock-ups of Pretty Plastic Tiles, made from discarded PVC, and Nabasco Architectural Skins (NPSP) made from biobased and recycled materials. Also on display is Cooloo Circular Skins, a versatile material for furniture and facades. These mock-ups illustrate the broad applicability of sustainable and circular materials.

Inspiring lecture program
In addition to the extensive materials exhibition, ARCHITECT@WORK also offers an inspiring lecture program curated by Architectenweb. Speakers such as Dirk Somers from Bovenbouw and Caro van de Venne from Nudus will share insights about their innovative approaches in modern architecture. From circular renovation projects to the integration of sustainable materials, the program offers a wealth of knowledge for both professionals and those interested in architecture.
