De Ploeg Durables
- story by De Ploeg
For almost 100 years now, De Ploeg has been working on premium quality curtain and upholstery fabrics. Fabrics to be savoured. Made with people and the environment in mind. Designed and developed in-house and manufactured within the European Union using an honest and safe production process.
A MODEST GESTURE
In 2021 De Ploeg gives a constructive impulse to its mission to become more sustainable year on year, by introducing the new sustainable label ‘De Ploeg – Durables’. By creating timeless collections, sustainability has always been a part of De Ploeg. Collections that are developed with care and attention and that last generations. However, De Ploeg also takes on the sustainability challenge with regard to materials. The importance De Ploeg has always given to craftmanship and natural materials has reached a new level now with their eye for detail and focus on beautiful and honest materials.
A NEW STANDARD
Sustainability is the answer to the time we live in. As the pace of the world around you is constantly speeding up, you will naturally seek peace and quiet. Experiences that you can consciously enjoy. Luxury and tranquillity from natural materials and inspiring surroundings. De Ploeg is constantly evolving and striving to create a responsible collection keeping in mind the balance between people, the environment and the economy. Now, but also looking to future generations. This is the new standard.
Two products highlighted
BASKET – an exceptional curtain fabric made from 100% hemp. Basket is soft flowing, with a loosely woven structure that emulates the look of linen. Because this fabric is 100% natural, it is completely biodegradable. But using hemp has many more advantages; it is an extremely sustainable crop, requiring much less water than cotton, both to grow and during processing. Also the cultivation of hemp takes up less agricultural land than growing other natural fibres. Hemp grows quickly and easily, needing little to no pesticides, and the plant gives back again much of the nutrients it takes from the soil. In short, Basket is a beautiful fabric with a beautiful story to tell.
TWINWOOL – A superior sustainable, woolen upholstery fabric. Twinwool is produced using washed-up ocean plastic. Impassioned volunteers collect the plastic waste from ocean beaches, river banks and in coastal communities. Using an innovative recycling process, this is then made into Bionic® yarn. In combination with a superior quality wool, also used in Ploegwool, this forms the basis of the sustainable upholstery fabric Twinwool. This unique twine gives the fabric a stunning duo-tone effect, and a very special story, unique in its kind.
