A 3D printed ‘threads’ in a shop interior

Design studio External Reference designed a shop interior for fashion brand Pinko in Rome, Italy.

For the design, External Reference drew inspiration from the weave of fabrics and the intricate intertwining of branches forming swallows’ nests. Made of cellulose, the intricate lattice consists of ‘threads’ that along the walls, interspersed with some luminous points. In total, the network consists of 800 programmable LED lights. These lights produce animations that not only illuminate the space, but also spotlight the showcased clothes. The colour palette is monochromatic and neutral.

In the ceiling, an infinity mirror was installed. Made from reflective surfaces and flexible screens, it generates an illusion of endless digital art overhead.

The lattice was 3D printed by Lamáquina. For another 3D printed project by External Reference, click here.
