A blazer made of bacterial cellulose
Danish fashion brand Ganni used the bacterial cellulose leather alternative by Polybion, a sustainable material innovation company, to make a blazer.
The blazer is made of Celium, a leather alternative developed by Polybion. The material is grown from agro-industrial fruit waste and made by bacteria that produce the cellulose as a metabolic by-product. Once formed, Celium’s cell-based membrane undergoes a sustainable stabilization process to achieve its high-performance characteristics. The material is vegan and organic, weighs less than cowhide, and the thickness, colour, graining and embossing can be tailored.
The Ganni blazer is made of marbled-yellow Celium and was showcased during the Global Fashion Summit (27 June to 1 July 2023).
