A chair made of paper

Furniture company Arper collaborated with PaperShell to develop a chair that is made of kraft paper and biobased resin.

PaperShell’s material consist of recycled or virgin kraft paper, which is bonded with biobased resin. The result is a versatile material that can be used to make 3D shapes. The company claims it is stronger than plastics, lighter than aluminium and has the same versatility as glass fibre.

In their latest collaboration, the Catifa Carta was designed, a reinterpretation of the Catifa 53. The seat of the chair consists of 29 layers of paper bonded with natural resin and pressed into shape. At end-of-life, the seat can be turned into biochar, which improves the soil.
