Assemblage Collection Translates Architectural Structures Into Timber Furniture

The Assemblage Collection, designed by French-Brazilian architecture studio Triptyque for Brazilian brand Breton, explores how structural principles from architecture can be reinterpreted at the scale of furniture. Developed between 2024 and 2025, the collection highlights timber as both a constructive and expressive material, offering insights relevant to architects, interior designers and product designers.

Structural Concepts Reimagined In Wood

At the core of the collection is an investigation into structural logic. Drawing inspiration from large-span architectural systems such as cantilevers, megastructures, and structural grids, each piece translates these concepts into domestic objects. Tables, seating and storage elements become studies in balance and tension, where support and load are visibly articulated.

Rather than concealing construction, the designs emphasise it. The furniture acts as a scaled-down architectural model, demonstrating how forces such as gravity and span can shape form. This approach positions each piece not simply as a functional object, but as a tangible exploration of building principles.

Timber As A Design And Material Strategy

The use of wood is central to the collection’s material narrative. Timber enables both structural experimentation and a refined aesthetic, while also aligning with growing interest in renewable and lower-impact materials within design disciplines. By focusing on the intrinsic properties of wood—its strength, flexibility and tactile quality—the collection underscores its relevance for both furniture and architectural applications.

The project reflects a broader shift towards material-conscious design, where construction logic and resource use are integral to the concept. In this sense, the collection bridges product design and architecture, demonstrating how material behaviour can inform form across scales.

Sustainability And Circular Commitments

Sustainability plays a key role in Breton’s production approach. As a certified B Corporation, the company integrates environmental and social responsibility throughout its operations. Its EcoBreton programme includes the use of certified raw materials, renewable resources and structured recycling systems, alongside reverse logistics and efforts to improve production efficiency.

Notably, Breton reports a carbon-negative footprint under the GHG Protocol, offsetting more carbon than it emits. Initiatives such as tree planting in the Atlantic Forest further contribute to its environmental strategy, reinforcing timber’s role within a regenerative material cycle.

Furniture As Architectural Thinking

With the Assemblage Collection, Triptyque and Breton present furniture as a medium for architectural speculation. Each object becomes a “miniature essay” in structure and materiality, suggesting how design thinking can move fluidly between scales.

For designers working across interiors, products and buildings, the collection offers a compelling example of how timber construction, structural expression and sustainability can converge in contemporary design.
