Caparol announced this month a step forward in ecological innovation within the paint industry with the introduction of CapaGeo, a range of products made for the most part from renewable raw plant materials. This sustainable material line was launched in Munich at ‘Farbe, Ausbau & Fassade.’ (Europe’s trade fair for facade design and interior architecture).

CapaGeo will initially consist of five different products comprising enamels, wood oils and interior dispersions. Taking a clear position away from fossil and mineral oil and towards renewable materials, CapaGeo enamels use soybean oil from sustainable sources. The binder of the internal dispersions is obtained for the most part from biogas and bio-naptha sources corresponding with the ISCC (International Sustainability and Carbon Certification) for safe and climate-friendly biomass.

Wolfgang Hoffman, Head of Product Management at Caparol says of this sustainable material development:  “Through the use of renewable raw material in manufacturing, we want to save our precious and limited resources. With CapaGeo, we are entering a new segment. With these products, we want to take on a pioneering role.’ Hoffmann adds that he is convinced other companies with follow Caparol’s example.

Caparol touts their use of high quality raw materials, long-term product development and extensive tests as key in developing CapaGeo, adding that their materials ensure good indoor air quality and are durable, as well as affordable. Innovation however does not stop with their launch. “With the CapaGeo product line, we are at the beginning of a development. In the coming years we will continue to drive this concept and expand our product range gradually,” says Caparol CEO Dr. Tony Horneff.

Incidently, Caparol is dispensing with the conventional plastic paint bucket. CapaGeo will instead be packaged in a recycled container.
