Ceramic museum wins Co-Creation Award

A radical looking museum extension finished with ceramic tiling has won this year’s Materia Co-Creation Award. The prize goes out to the best collaborative project by a team of a designer and a manufacturer.

BiermanHenket architects and Koninklijke Tichelaar, a Dutch ceramics expert, worked together on the winning project. Their design for the Foundation Museum in Zwolle (NL), won the prize for their collaboration on a new type of ceramic, glazed tile.

The project features an extension shaped like a squashed ball, which was placed on top of an existing building. The extension is covered with thousands of shaped tiles, which are coloured from white to blue to blend in with their surroundings.

Out of four finalists, the museum won because the close cooperation between manufacturer and designer, which helped raise the bar for collaborative projects. Read more about the three other nominees here.

More information on the project is here. Materia congratulates the winners, who will receive an extensive media package. Look out for the video special here on Materia!
