CIMENTO’s Riva Collection by Patricia Urquiola Celebrates Natural Rhythms
Unveiled during Milano Design Week, the Riva Collection is a new furniture line by designer Patricia Urquiola for CIMENTO, offering a poetic interpretation of nature through material and form. Comprising tables, coffee tables, consoles, sideboards, and cabinets, the collection draws inspiration from the fluid motion of water, echoing its organic, sometimes serene, sometimes forceful rhythm.
Each piece features irregular, sculpted edges that simulate wave-like movements, enhancing the visual and tactile experience. The volumes are modular yet organic, offering dynamic forms suited to contemporary interiors. This makes the collection especially appealing for interior designers and architects aiming to incorporate natural forms into high-end spaces.
Material Innovation with a Circular Approach
Central to the Riva Collection is CIMENTO technology, a cement-based composite made from over 90% mineral aggregates, primarily sourced from production waste of large-scale quarries. By repurposing industrial by-products, the brand significantly reduces the extraction of non-renewable materials, contributing to resource conservation and waste reduction.
Each component is developed with recyclable materials selected according to stringent environmental standards. The brand adheres to international certifications such as FSC and PEFC, ensuring traceability and responsible sourcing of raw materials. This attention to provenance supports a transparent and accountable supply chain for sustainable building and furniture applications.
Carbon Neutrality & Energy Responsibility
Since 2022, CIMENTO has been certified carbon neutral, balancing emissions through carbon offset strategies and more eco-conscious production methods. Their partnership with Valle Sacchetta e Sacchettina, a sustainable agricultural company in the Venetian lagoon, underscores this mission. One notable initiative includes the cultivation of microalgae, which absorb CO₂ more efficiently than trees, transforming atmospheric carbon into clean oxygen.
Further supporting its low-impact approach, the CIMENTO manufacturing facility is powered by a 180 kW photovoltaic solar system, covering up to 100% of its energy needs. Any additional power required comes from 100% renewable energy sources. The production line also operates on a closed-loop model, recycling processing water and minimising casting waste—an example of circularity in industrial design.
