Interior panels made with paper waste
FRONT Materials (formerly Stonecycling) partnered with ALTED Materials to launch paper-based panels, upcycling 722 kg of landfill waste with every 100m2 of interior wall cladding.
Global paper consumption is on the rise, with Europe alone producing 130 million tonnes of pulp and paper yearly, leading to millions of tonnes of waste. While recycling efforts help, paper fibres can only be recycled a limited number of times before they weaken and become unusable in traditional paper production. Much of this unusable “paper sludge” ends up in landfills, releasing harmful greenhouse gases.
In response, ALTED Materials has developed Paper Waste Panels — construction-ready boards made from paper sludge and post-consumer cardboard. Through a water and enzyme treatment, these panels strengthen short cellulose fibres, creating durable boards suitable for interior partitions and cladding. Available in five colours and three distinct patterns, they’re strong, lightweight, and non-toxic, offering a healthier and fully recyclable alternative for the built environment.
These panels are designed to support a circular economy. At the end of their lifecycle, they can be disassembled and reintegrated into new products, making them a sustainable choice that reduces waste and promotes more responsible material use in construction. Paper Waste Panels show that innovative materials can transform waste into valuable, eco-friendly building solutions.
