Peanut shell wins Material of the Year award

News · Story by MaterialDistrict · 13 Feb 2013 · 1 min read

Peanut Shell Board by Kokoboard has won the Material of the Year award. From a shortlist of ten top-quality new materials, the post-harvest bio-composite material was selected the best for 2013.

The winning product is made by Kokoboard. The Peanut Shell board is a bio-composite board, made of post-harvest waste. Peanut Shells are turned into particle boards by a hot press procedure and the use of a formaldehyde-free adhesive.

The prize for most popular material is a year’s special mention on the Materia website and newsletter, and an honorary spot in the Materia Inspiration Centre in Amsterdam. All visitors of Material Xperience 2013 were able to vote for their choice of most innovative material. Among the other finalists were electroluminescent panels, woven sound-insulation fabrics and composites containing 40% natural fibres.

All the materials are published on here.
