What Not to Miss at Dutch Design Week 2024: Exploring Texture and Tactile Innovation
Dutch Design Week 2024 takes place from 19 to 27 October in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. Here, we present some of the most innovative material projects present. Here, we’ll be exploring texture and tactile innovation.
Dutch Design Week 2024 is packed with projects that focus on the sensory and tactile aspects of design. Cellulite challenges perceptions of body texture, turning it into an artistic statement through fabric. The designer turns mummified bio-waste into wearable designs. The Rewear Chair encourages to rewear your clothes rather than washing them right away. The chair on which you can hang you clothing is made of wind-felled cedar wood, complemented with reclaimed ash fixtures, natural beeswax to smooth the joints. Tri: The Material That Touches You takes a step further by connecting emotions to material touch, offering an immersive tactile experience, focusing on a material made from regional tree bark.
Tactile Whiteness: Equilibrium with Mycelium explores the delicate balance of nature through mycelium, a mushroom-based material. This project demonstrates the potential of bio-based materials in achieving aesthetic and tactile harmony, merging organic growth with design.
Lastly, Biohybrid Device: Grown Technology highlights the future of tactile materials, combining biology and technology to create living, responsive surfaces.
These projects present an exciting look into how touch and texture are shaping the future of design, where materials not only serve functional purposes but also engage our senses.
