World First: Solarge Launches Cradle to Cradle Certified Circular Solar Panel

Solarge has reached a global milestone in sustainable energy technology. Its SOLO solar panel is the first photovoltaic panel worldwide to receive Cradle to Cradle Certified Circularity. The panel achieved Bronze level certification under version 4.1 of the Cradle to Cradle Certified Products Programme. This makes it both the first solar panel assessed specifically for circularity and the first to meet the latest version of the standard.

Circular Design At The Core

The certification confirms that Solarge places circular design at the heart of its product development. The SOLO solar panel follows a life-cycle-based design approach. As a result, the product minimises waste and keeps materials in continuous use for as long as possible.

Conventional solar panels often rely on complex material combinations that complicate reuse or recycling. In contrast, circular design principles support long-term material value and easier end-of-use processing.

The Cradle to Cradle Circularity scope focuses on product circularity performance. At the same time, it verifies compliance with Material Health requirements. This means that the materials used have been assessed for safety and suitability within closed material cycles.

Transparency And Independent Verification

To obtain independent verification, Solarge worked closely with EPEA Benelux, a specialist in Cradle to Cradle assessments. Together, they reviewed the panel’s material composition, product design and end-of-use strategies. This process also included recycling solutions.

Based on EPEA’s assessment, the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute awarded the certification. In addition, Solarge integrated Cradle to Cradle requirements into its internal change management process. This step allows the company to monitor compliance continuously and improve performance over time.

Value For Architecture And Design

For professionals working in the built environment, the development highlights the growing availability of circular, energy-generating building components. Lightweight solar panels with verified circular credentials support modular construction, demountable façades and material passport strategies. At the same time, they contribute to renewable energy targets.

Ambitions Towards 2026

The Bronze certification marks an important first step. Looking ahead, Solarge aims to achieve Cradle to Cradle Certified Silver level or higher for the SOLO range in the first half of 2026. With this ambition, the company continues to position itself at the forefront of circular solar technology.

By combining renewable energy generation with circular material principles, Solarge shows how solar panels can contribute positively to both the built environment and the wider ecosystem.
