MaterialDistrict Expo: Aging Materials

Some materials are like wine and cheese: the older and more mature, the better. They have character; materials that become more beautiful with age. The unique pattern on calcified concrete, the nuanced colours of patina, the worn out structure of weathered wood, sun-bleached linen, the organic craquelure effect of coatings and glaze… Aged surfaces are so popular that the process is sped up or simply copied. But allowing something to change it appearance slowly can also be an art form.

The 100 materials in this exhibition all have a connection to the aging process, be it really old, aged in a sped up process, or imitated.
