This innovative tile is crafted from 100% recycled cork granulate, sourced through local collection programs in the Netherlands. By upcycling discarded wine stoppers, the material bridges the gap between urban waste and high-quality architectural solutions. Realized in collaboration with SW Advies en Realisatie, this sample demonstrates how technical expertise and circular materials converge into versatile surfacing. These tiles are particularly suitable for (green) rooftops and footpaths, where their lightweight nature and natural aesthetic offer a sustainable alternative to traditional materials.
The product embodies a fully closed-loop system, designed to facilitate the transition towards ‘circular play’ and sustainable urban design. Not only is it made from recycled waste, but the material is also designed for disassembly. At the end of its lifecycle, these tiles can be returned to be processed into new circular cork tiles, ensuring almost zero material loss and a significantly reduced environmental footprint.
Features:
- Natural Cushioning: The inherent cellular structure of cork provides a comfortable, resilient walking surface with natural energy return.
- Water Permeability: The advanced porous composition allows for high water drainage, making it an ideal companion for green roof systems.
- Tactility: Offers a warm, organic texture that integrates seamlessly with natural landscapes.
- Biobased Roadmap: While this current iteration utilizes a PU-binder for durability, the development goal is a 100% biobased binder, further pushing the boundaries of fully organic, circular material design.
Applications
Expertly realized for rooftop walkways, garden paths, and urban landscaping where circularity and aesthetic performance are required.
