FLOCC is a sustainable textile innovation that transforms cotton waste from heritage lace production into soft, luxurious flock fibres for interiors, fashion, and surface applications. Developed by Sara + Sarah Smart Textile Design and Maison du Flock in coilaboration with MYB Textiles, FLOCC gives new life to lace clips, selvedges, and offcuts that would otherwise go to landfill.

The fibres are 100% natural, offering designers an eco-conscious alternative to conventional nylon flock. Using electrostatic flocking, FLOCC creates rich, velvety surfaces applied to MYB Textiles’ fabrics, turning production waste into tactile, design-ready materials suited to both experimental and high-value applications.

Through this collaboration, FLOCC demonstrates how circular design principles can transform industrial by-products into valuable resources. Building on initial research funded by the EU WORTH Partnership, and a successful Crowdfunder UK campaign matched by Creative Scotland, the project is now supported by an Innovate UK Resource Efficiency for Resilience and Sustainability award. This support enables the team to explore additional fibres — including silk and mixed cellulose — expanding possibilities for luxury, low-impact flocked textiles.

FLOCC sits at the intersection of heritage craftsmanship, technical experimentation, and sustainable innovation, offering a compelling example of how textile waste can be reimagined as material opportunity.
