GENCORK is a Portuguese brand of cork surface solutions developed by SOFALCA, with creative direction by SPECTROOM. The brand combines expanded black cork agglomerate with computational design tools, including algorithmic systems and artificial intelligence, to produce interior wall coverings and design installations. The approach positions cork as a low-tech, biobased material integrated with advanced digital fabrication processes.
The core material used in GENCORK products is expanded black cork, a 100% natural cork agglomerate manufactured without synthetic additives. The material is characterised by thermal insulation, acoustic absorption and vibration-dampening properties, while retaining the tactile and visual qualities associated with cork. Through CNC milling and computational modelling, GENCORK transforms this material into patterned surface systems ranging from geometric two-dimensional designs to complex three-dimensional structures inspired by biomimetic principles.
The collection is organised into four categories. Two-dimensional patterns are based on geometric and mathematical compositions, while three-dimensional patterns draw on organic forms and complex spatial geometries. The Greens series integrates biophilic concepts developed in collaboration with Greenarea. In addition, the Collectible series comprises limited-edition pieces exploring the intersection of art, design and artificial intelligence. Many of the patterns are generated using regenerative computational systems that merge algorithmic processes with material performance.
