About this material

Ecovative grows materials made from agricultural by- products and mushroom mycelium. Mycelium is a natural, self-assembling glue, digesting crop waste to produce cost-competitive and environmentally responsible materials that perform. Unlike plastics, which come from unsustainable petrochemicals, Mushroom Materials start with plant-based farm waste and can end up in your garden, fully compostable.

For design and packaging purposes. Ecovative is a material science company developing a new class of home-compostable bioplastics based on mycelium, a living organism. Mushroom Materials are high-performance, environmentally responsible alternatives to traditional plastic foam packaging, insulation, and other synthetic materials like molded or fabricated EPS, EPP, EPE and more. It is renewable, natural and home-compostable. Mushroom Materials are Cradle to Cradle Certified CM Gold.
