Sugarcrete® Acoustic Board is a bio-based interior panel made from sugarcane bagasse fibres and biodegradable mineral binders. The material was developed by researchers at the University of East London’s Sustainability Research Institute and further refined in partnership with BAGACEIRA.
The board combines acoustic and thermal performance with a circular material approach. It is free from synthetic resins and VOCs, fire-resistant (Class B-s1 d0), and designed to be fully recyclable or compostable at the end of its life cycle. By utilising agricultural waste and storing carbon absorbed during sugarcane growth, the material offers a low-carbon alternative for interior applications.
Declared material properties include an acoustic absorption rating of αw = 0.95 (Class A), thermal conductivity of 0.07 W/mK, a density of approximately 524 kg/m³, and compressive strength of 2 MPa . The board is vapour-permeable and contributes to hygroscopic regulation.
Sugarcrete® Acoustic Board is suitable for thermal insulation, acoustic wall panels, interior wall cladding, internal partitions and decorative or sculptural installations . A colour library developed with mineral-based pigments enables a range of natural tones for visible interior applications.
