- story by MaterialDistrict

Wolkat’s recycled textile fabrics are circular materials produced from post-consumer textile waste. Discarded garments and textiles are transformed into new fabrics with a reduced environmental footprint.

The fabrics are manufactured through a mechanical textile-to-textile recycling process that operates without dyes or chemical treatments. This approach preserves the integrity of the fibres while minimising resource consumption.

Post-consumer origin
The fabrics are derived from discarded textiles that would otherwise be sent to landfill. These materials are reprocessed into new raw materials for textile production.

Circular and traceable
Wolkat manages the entire circular chain, including collection, sorting, recycling, spinning, and weaving. This enables transparency and traceability throughout the material lifecycle.

Sustainable processing
The mechanical recycling process involves shredding used textiles without the use of water or chemicals, resulting in a lower environmental impact compared to alternative recycling methods.

Colour-sorted for reduced dyeing
Textiles are sorted by colour prior to processing. This eliminates the need for additional dyeing and further reduces environmental impact.

Wide range of compositions
The recycled fabrics are mechanically transformed into new fibres and yarns for woven and knitted applications. Fibre compositions can be tailored according to customer requirements, including high-cotton, high-acrylic, or high-polyester blends with up to 80% recycled content. This enables a broad range of fabric weights, textures, and performance characteristics suited to different applications.

Versatile applications
The fabrics are suitable for various end uses, including apparel, bags, interior textiles, and accessories. They can also be integrated into custom products for fashion, home, and industrial markets.

Contribution to circularity
By converting post-consumer textile waste into new fabrics, Wolkat contributes to circular economy objectives, supporting brands and producers in reducing dependence on virgin materials and meeting sustainability targets.
