A 3D formed veneer chair
Benjamin Hubert of design agency Layer designed a chair made of 3D formed timber veneer for Italian furniture company MDF Italia.
Called Press, the lightweight chair shells are pressed from 3D-Veneer. The production process allows for the creation of complex forms in veneer without cracking. The shells are made in a two-part aluminium mould that presses the timber veneer material into the right shape. The compound curvature adds strength to the shell of the chair, while allowing it to remain lightweight. It also adds to the sitting comfort and the chair’s aesthetic.
The chair is available in beech plywood in bleached and black stained finished, or Canaletto walnut veneer. There are various leg options available.
