German brand Pinqponq developed a bicycle bag with a reduced CO2 footprint, as it is made of polyamide made from pyrolysis oil from tire waste.

Pyrolysis is the thermal decomposition of materials, changing the chemical composition. In the case of plastic, the material is heated without oxygen and turned back into liquid oil of the same quality of the original product, which then can be used again to make plastics (read more about the process here).

The base material of the bicycle bag is Ultramid® Ccycled® by BASF, which uses pyrolysis oil made of hard-to-recycle plastics like tires, substituting virgin fossil-based raw materials. This is turned into polyamide for the bicycle bag.

The bag is a 2-in-1 bicycle bag and tote bag. It can be easily be attached and detached from a bicycle. The outer fabric are water resistant and PFC-free. The maximum load weight is 8-10 kg.
