A bicycle path made of solar panels

In a collaboration with various Dutch institutions, the French company Wattway equipped two cycle paths with a photovoltaic coating in the Netherlands.

In the Netherlands, over 35,000 km of cycle paths stretch out, which offers an attractive potential for renewable energy. Wattway, in collaboration with BAM Royal Group and the provinces of North Brabant and North Holland, installed the photovoltaic coating on two bicycle paths of 1,000 m2 each.

The total surface is expected to generate 160 Mwh in the first year, which is enough to provide power for about 64 Dutch households, which is not a whole lot, but it is a start. The site will be monitored and maintained for five years.

Earlier, Wattway covered a road in Normandy in solar panels. Read more about it here.
