A wooden gravel bicycle

Italian company MLK Innovazione designed a gravel bike made of laminated wood.

The frame of the bike, called Ornus, is made of laminated ash wood. The geometry of the frame, the orientation of the fibres and the layering are designed to guarantee an immediate response and achieve high levels in torsional stiffness and lightness. The wooden frame is assembled by craftsmen, and the wood makes each bike unique.

Wood offers a natural ability to absorb vibrations, having a high internal damping factor. The chassis architecture is designed to improve these characteristics. The internal connectors are made of aluminium alloys for aeronautical applications. The resulting bike is sturdy and lightweight.

According to the company, the bicycle “represents the fusion between artisan tradition, modern design and technological innovation for a unique and engaging driving experience.”
