A wood beam lattice façade

Dutch architectural practices DELVA and ZJA designed an event venue, which features a wood beam lattice façade and is located on new coastal reinforcement.

Called SILT, the venue is located in Middelkerke, Belgium, and hosts a hotel, a casino, a restaurant, a multifunctional event space, and underground parking. The design of the building integrates it in the landscape.

The hotel tower tops the venue and features a wood beam lattice façade, made of curved beams made of Accoya wood. Below the hotel is a new sea wall that can withstand a 1000-year storm. The sea defence will withstand during extreme storms with exceptionally high waves and water levels of more than 2 metres above the current high tide level, making the building the best protected spot along the Belgian coast.

SILT has already received two awards: the International Architecture Award and the World Landscape Award.
