Rice Tab is a technical board developed by BIRDMIND from rice husk, an agricultural by-product revalorised through a proprietary
and patented industrial process. Conceived from the outset as a circular material, Rice Tab is manufactured without water consumption, without toxic adhesives and is formaldehyde-free, while allowing production offcuts to be reintegrated into the process to create new boards.

The material has been designed to meet the demands of professional use in architecture, interior design, furniture and contract projects. It offers stable performance in humid environments, antifungal properties and a homogeneous internal structure that facilitates machining and customisation, both for constructive applications and design elements.

Building on the original board, BIRDMIND has developed Rice Tab Plus, a technical evolution that incorporates powdered mussel shell — a by-product of the Galician canning industry rich in natural calcium carbonate — to enhance its reaction to fire. Thanks to this innovation, Rice Tab Plus achieves the Bs1d0 fire classification, one of the most demanding standards for interior materials in public, hospitality and retail spaces, without the use of chemical flame retardants or toxic additives.

Both Rice Tab and Rice Tab Plus share the same material base and design philosophy: delivering high technical performance without compromising indoor health or a truly circular approach. The absence of formaldehyde and the material’s virtually negligible emissions contribute to improved indoor air quality, while its aesthetic versatility allows it to integrate seamlessly into contemporary projects with high design standards.

With Rice Tab, BIRDMIND proposes a new way of understanding technical materials: solutions developed from waste, capable of meeting the most demanding regulations while aligning innovation, performance and sustainability.
