Elastic Prism Lights Up New York Lobby

Inés Esnal’s Prism Installation uses tautly pulled, colourful elastic ropes to form triangular spaces that filter light into a the lobby of a new residential building in New York.
The ropes form a kind of geometric fabric filter that tranforms the lobby space into an optical prism. As the vistor enters, the various cross-sectional view that result generate dynamic perspectives and appearances.

An architect and an artist, Ines Esnal also designed the hall that forms the backdrop to the installation. The rough concrete selected to clad the lobby walls sets off the vibrantly coloured ropes and their airy, colourful volumes with great contrast and effect.

This Prism installation marks a leap of the artist’s drawings to three-dimensional space, where abstract lines from the artist’s prints become tangible, allowing for a new material experience. You can discover more of Inés Esnal’s work here.
