Invite: Architecture Centre AORTA Tour of The Utrecht Science Park & Award Winning Library

Discover the unique architecture of the Utrecht Science Park with the Architecture Centre AORTA. This Friday, October 2nd, you can join a tour of the campus and in particular, the award winning University Library Uithof with AORTA guide Jan-Maarten Dalmeijer.

Utrecht Science Park De Uithof is known as an inspiring showcase of modern architecture with one of its greatest icons being the award winning University Library for which architect Wiel Arets won the Rietvelt Prize in 2005. In the same year, the library was also nominated for the Mies van der Rohe Award.

This Friday, Jan-Maarten Dalmeijer invites you to revisit this ‘black glass block’, within which black concrete bookshelves seem to float like clouds. The interior is mostly black, but thanks to open spaces and light grey floors, the interior feels surprisingly bright and spacious.

Since the 1990’s, this university area has been experiencing a construction boom, with new teaching offices and student complexes built almost every year, each with their own modern signature.
