Lamps made of steel and cocooning material

Benjamin Hubert of British design agency Layer designed a collection of pendant lamps, made of a steel frame covered with a cocooning material.

The lamp collection, designed for Scandinavian brand Muuto, is “informed by the softly rectilinear forms of archetypal industrial lighting often used in public spaces.” Called Strand, the lamps consist of a lightweight framework of fine steel threads. The framework is covered with a fibrous, cocooning material, which is sprayed on, to create a large volume with a small material impact. The lamps are available in four shapes.

Founder of Layer, Benjamin Hubert, says, “We are proud to be the first British designers to work with renowned Scandinavian design brand Muuto. As a brand, they are aligned with our ambition to create simple and accessible design that can be owned by many and seamlessly integrated into the home. With Strand, we have created a collection of softly voluminous pendant lamps that exude gentleness and sensitivity.”

The collection will be presented during London Design Festival 2019, 14-22 September.
