Materica Introduces the Superfici Venice Collection: A New Approach to Metalised Boiserie

Materica, a company specialising in advanced metalised surfaces, has introduced the Superfici Venice Collection, a new series of boiserie panels developed in collaboration with designers Matteo Cibic, Serena Confalonieri, and StorageMilano. This collection combines innovative material treatments with modular design solutions, expanding possibilities for architects, interior designers, and product designers working in both luxury and contemporary spaces.

At the core of Materica’s expertise is wire metalisation, a process in which pure metals such as brass, bronze, copper, nickel silver, aluminium, and zinc are micronised and fused onto surfaces. This advanced technique is complemented by oxidation treatments, laser cutting, resin applications, and natural pigmentations, producing panels with distinctive depth, texture, and reflective qualities. These treatments result in a wide range of aesthetic effects, from refined patinas to intricate optical illusions.

Modular Flexibility and Outdoor Durability
The Superfici Venice Collection is designed with modular flexibility, allowing panels to be configured both vertically and horizontally. This system enables seamless integration into a variety of architectural and interior applications, whether in commercial, residential, or hospitality spaces.

The collection is also engineered for outdoor applications, with metalised finishes that can be applied to weather-resistant substrates. This ensures that the panels retain their visual and structural integrity in exterior environments, making them suitable for façades, terraces, and outdoor installations.

Innovative Design Concepts
The collection features four distinctive designs, each showcasing a unique interpretation of metalised surfaces.

Sipario by Matteo Cibic explores the interplay of illusion and materiality, using layered metalised finishes to create the effect of fabric drapery. This trompe-l’œil technique transforms walls into theatrical elements, introducing a sense of depth and movement.

Medina by Serena Confalonieri takes inspiration from Moroccan architecture, featuring hand-applied metallic studs that evoke the detailing of traditional souk doors. A specialised metal pigmentation process mimics the appearance of ceramic enamel, with vibrant hues such as Deep Blue, Lagoon Green, and Venetian Red, alongside classic metallic finishes.

Prisma by StorageMilano reinterprets boiserie with a focus on light refraction, incorporating prismatic metallic columns that shift in appearance throughout the day. The design captures and redirects natural light, creating dynamic interplays of reflection and shadow.

Path by StorageMilano features precisely cut geometric patterns, forming fluid, maze-like structures that offer both decorative and architectural versatility. The minimalist aesthetic is enriched through laser-cut details and polished metallic finishes, making it adaptable to a range of interior styles.

Sustainability in Surface Design
Beyond its visual and technical innovation, the Superfici Venice Collection aligns with sustainable design principles. The modular format reduces material waste by allowing panels to be reconfigured or expanded, rather than replaced. Additionally, the use of pure metals supports recyclability and refinishing, ensuring long-term durability while minimising environmental impact.

By combining traditional metalworking techniques with contemporary manufacturing technologies, Materica demonstrates how material innovation can enhance both the functionality and aesthetics of architectural surfaces. The Superfici Venice Collection offers a versatile, durable, and visually striking solution for designers seeking to integrate high-performance metal finishes into their projects.
