Nevima is the Dutch Felt Company, founded in 1927. The company manufactures felt products and operates in three divisions: Technical Applications, Acoustic Insulation, and Building Felts.

Felt is by far the most important raw material used by Nevima. This felt can be of either organic or synthetic origin. The company aims to source 100% of its purchased raw materials from the following categories:

1. Organic and renewable
Nevima’s first choice, and the most important sustainability criterion, is that a material is renewable. The company therefore prioritises materials derived from inexhaustible sources. Examples include (shorn) hair, wool, and coconut fibres. The wood used is not only renewable but also reused, such as chipboard.

If, due to price or material performance requirements, an alternative choice must be made, Nevima’s secondary preference is for:

2. Reused
Felt can also be produced from synthetic raw materials, which may be either new or previously used. Nevima strives to use only felts whose fibres are residual products from other production processes, such as the carpet industry, or materials that have had a previous life, for example clothing or PET bottles.

In cases where reused raw materials are not sufficiently available, or cannot meet the required price or performance criteria, Nevima opts for:

3. Reusable
As a final option, Nevima selects raw materials that, although new and derived from a finite source, are reusable. Once Nevima’s products no longer fulfil the function for which they were sold, the materials from which the product is made must be separable. New products should then be able to be manufactured from the separated components.
