Japanese Knotweed is a fast growing problem in the Netherlands. This invasive plant grows rapidly and leaves a trail of destruction in public spaces and roads, due to its immense growing strength. That is why municipalities and water authorities are on a mission to cut it down and incinerate it, causing lots of CO2 emission. To bring halt to this CO2 emission, Why Knot wants to bring another perspective to this probleem, by creating a new circular material from the Japanese knotweed.

Why Knot Design uses the beautiful characteristics of the Japanese knotweed to create a strong, yet light material. This start-up began with a circular waste material challenge and is turning into a sustainable design studio.
