Materia Exhibition – Kinky Metals

Materia will be at Dutch Steelconstruction Day in Katwijk on October 2, with a new exhibition called “Kinky Metals.” This exhibition is entirely devoted to exceptional and innovative metals.

Metals such as steel, aluminium, copper and many alloys have an industrial image. Since the Industrial Revolution, metals have conquered the world and changed our environment. The growth of machine building, the automotive, rail and air transport industries, as well as the emergence of sleek and modern skyscrapers were all made possible by metals. In addition, metal is a valued material for walls, ceilings, floors and furnishings as it guarantees the high-tech look of architecture that became known in the 20th century.

Metal used in building has a long and reliable service life with more than 90% being recycled at the end of its material life. Recycled metal is seen extensively in this exhibition with metals coated onto brick , foamed like a cake, molded, woven , knitted or recycled from old aircraft. Metal can also be laminated with unexpected materials, splattered onto fabric, embossed, stretched and yes, also 3d printed. Curious about metal’s technical and aesthetic inspirations? Come to “Kinky Materials” and find out yourself.
