MaterialDistrict Expo: Fascinating Façades

MaterialDistrict presents ‘Fascinating Façades’ at Future Façade 2025

Utrecht, 18 March 2025 – MaterialDistrict is set to showcase the exclusive materials exhibition ‘Fascinating Façades’ at Future Façade 2025, highlighting the latest innovations in façade architecture and building envelopes. Featuring over 100 advanced material samples and four large-scale exhibition pieces, the display demonstrates how innovation and material use go hand in hand in shaping the façades of the future.

The inaugural edition of Future Façade will take place on 7 and 8 May 2025 at the Royal Jaarbeurs, Utrecht. This new industry event focuses on the future of façades and building envelopes, with a strong emphasis on innovation, circularity, and sustainable solutions.

Making innovation tangible: materials and mock-ups
The ‘Fascinating Façades’ exhibition not only allows visitors to explore innovative materials up close but also presents four large-scale mock-ups that demonstrate the practical application of these materials. The four selected exhibition pieces are:

  • Soltint & PowerGraphic (SOL-R&D) – Integrated BIPV solar technology for façades, featuring customisable colours and patterns that combine aesthetics with energy generation.
  • Rethinking Life Cycles (Cooloo) – Circular façade and interior finishing materials made from recycled urban mining materials, with a focus on reuse and longevity.
  • Hempcrete Façade Element (Studio Dørff) – Bio-based hempcrete façade panels that support biodiversity with integrated nesting spaces and green zones.
  • Defining a New Aesthetic (Nudus) – Innovative façade cladding made from reclaimed roof tiles, designed for sustainability, CO₂ reduction, and a lifespan of 50+ years.

These mock-ups provide a tangible and realistic insight into how new materials can directly contribute to innovative and future-proof façade solutions.

The future of façade architecture
Façade architecture faces significant challenges. Climate change, energy performance, and circularity are driving architects and designers to find new, innovative solutions. Façades are no longer just the visual identity of a building; they play a crucial role in energy efficiency, ventilation, acoustic comfort, and material reuse. MaterialDistrict brings these challenges together in an inspiring exhibition, where visitors can explore innovative materials that contribute to sustainable, adaptive, and circular façade designs.

Jeroen van Oostveen, Managing Director and owner of MaterialDistrict, emphasises the importance of material innovation in façade architecture:

“Façades form the outer shell of our built environment and play a key role in both aesthetics and functionality. The ‘Fascinating Façades’ exhibition offers an inspiring vision of the future of façades and how new materials can enhance energy efficiency, sustainability, and aesthetic diversity.”

According to Tom van der Zwaag, organiser of Future Façade 2025 on behalf of Jaarbeurs, the collaboration with MaterialDistrict is a valuable addition:

“The façade sector is undergoing a transformation, driven by stricter regulations and increasing demand for circular and sustainable construction methods. With ‘Fascinating Façades’, we provide Future Façade visitors with direct access to the latest material innovations, helping them to strengthen and future-proof their projects.”

Future Façade 2025: The international platform for façade innovation
Future Façade 2025 will bring together the international façade industry at the Royal Jaarbeurs, offering a comprehensive programme of keynote speeches, panel discussions, and innovations from leading companies and knowledge institutions. The ‘Fascinating Façades’ exhibition will be one of the event highlights and is free to visit for attendees using the discount code Materials.

Jaarbeurs and the construction & installation sector
Jaarbeurs is a central hub for the construction & installation sector and has been organising leading industry trade fairs such as BouwBeurs and VSK for many years. In 2024, they introduced DigiBouw, and on 7 and 8 May 2025, the first edition of Future Façade will take place. Additionally, in June 2026, the new European Smart City Expo (ESCE) will be launched as an annual event.

Jaarbeurs also hosts numerous guest events for the construction and installation sector and, in 2023, launched the Bouw & Installatie Hub, an online content platform dedicated to collaboration, knowledge sharing, and sustainable growth.
