BioStuc
Biobased wall finish made from natural polymers and plant-based materials, reinforced with recycled sawdust.
BioStuc is a biobased wall finish developed by designer Tim Couwenberg. It is made from natural polymers and plant-based materials and reinforced with recycled sawdust, giving interior walls a warm, tactile surface with a natural texture.
The material grew out of Couwenberg’s research into biodegradable materials for fashion. That work first focused on tactility and flexibility on the body, then expanded into furniture, where structure and strength became more important, before arriving in architecture as a biobased stucco.
Depending on how it is processed, BioStuc produces a range of textures and material properties, from a subtle sheen to a coarse finish. According to the designer, it can be applied directly to different wall surfaces without prior preparation. It is described as non-toxic, CO₂-neutral in production and made with biodegradable components.

BioStuc is available in four colours: Original sawdust, Light Green, Dark Green and BlueGrey. One of its first applications is in the home of Mark Boschman, architect and partner at RoosRos Architecten. The material is intended for interior walls and can be ordered through a request form on the designer’s website, stating the colour, area in square metres and project details.
