About this material

CHARLE® Berlin is firmly committed to using selected, certified and cycle-able materials.

The elastic bands are made from GOTS-certified organic cotton, TENCEL™ Lyocell and TENCEL™ Luxe from Lenzing, as well as natural rubber from FSC®-certified plantations, which also complies with the requirements of the European REACH chemicals regulation.

The materials used enable completely plastic-free products and form the basis for biologically circular textile solutions. As they are biodegradable the elastic bands offer an alternative to. conventional, plastic-based materials and can, at the same time, provide impetus for the development of suitable disposal and recycling systems.

The selection of raw materials follows an approach that goes beyond simply reducing negative environmental impacts. The focus is on renewable and regenerative raw materials, as well as materials that can be returned to biological cycles. In this way, CHARLE® aims to contribute not only to conserving resources but also to strengthening natural cycles in the long term.

The bands are manufactured in Austria. The energy required for production comes from the in-house hydroelectric power station and from solar energy.

Social conditions throughout the supply chain are also part of the company’s responsibility towards materials. As a member of Fair Rubber e.V., the company supports fair living and working conditions in natural rubber production. This includes funding audits at producers’ sites and the distribution of Fair Trade premiums.
