The Teknos FR Façade Opaque system is a waterborne fire-retardant coating system developed for exterior timber cladding. Designed for weather-exposed façades, the system combines fire protection with long-term durability and enables timber cladding to achieve enhanced fire performance without compromising its architectural appearance.

The coating system consists of two components: the TEKNOSAFE FLAME GUARD 2407-00 WHITE intumescent primer and the TEKNOSAFE FLAME PROTECT 2408-00 intumescent topcoat. Applied together, these coatings form a protective layer that expands when exposed to high temperatures, slowing the spread of fire across the timber surface.

The system is intended for use on exterior timber cladding, including solid timber boards and finger-jointed laminated timber elements. Suitable substrates include softwood species such as Scandinavian spruce, while the coating can also be applied to other approved timber cladding systems in accordance with the manufacturer’s specifications. A wide range of opaque colours is available, allowing the system to be integrated into diverse architectural designs.

When applied as a complete coating system, the product can achieve fire classifications of B-s1,d0 or B-s2,d0 in accordance with EN 13501-1, depending on the tested configuration. The system is also classified as DRF class EXT under EN 16755, demonstrating the long-term durability of its fire-retardant performance under exterior weather exposure. In addition, it has been tested in accordance with SP Fire 105 and can achieve fire protection classifications including K₁10 and K₂10.

Beyond its fire-retardant function, the coating system provides a durable exterior finish that protects timber façades against weathering while maintaining the desired colour and appearance over time. As a waterborne coating system, it offers an alternative to solvent-based exterior finishes for projects where both fire performance and façade durability are key design considerations.
