Ligno Foam is a lightweight material consisting of 40% lignin, a byproduct of the cellulose and paper industries, as well as from biorefinery processes. This innovative material is produced by the Fraunhofer Institute WKI, and its development is part of the research project LignoLight, funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, Germany. It is currently still in the research phase. At present, the bio-based content is around 65%, but in the future, we aim to achieve a bio-based content of 95%, with the lignin content increasing to 50–60%. The material is suitable for different industries, such as the furniture industry.
