Mycelium Acoustic Panels

by MYCONOM · Turkey · ONA1150 · Published 13 Nov 2025
About this material

Myconom’s material is produced using the natural growth principles of fungal mycelium, enabling the creation of 100% bio-based and biodegradable composites without petrochemicals, synthetic additives, or chemical processing. In this system, mycelium grows through cellulose-rich agricultural or textile waste and acts as a natural binder, forming strong, stable networks without the need for chemical or biobased adhesives. This approach eliminates VOC emissions entirely and ensures a clean, non-toxic lifecycle.

The composite structure is inherently low-carbon. Because the raw inputs consist primarily of agricultural and textile by-products, the material begins as carbon-negative biomass. Production requires minimal energy—up to 90% less than conventional plastics—and results in approximately 50% lower carbon emissions compared to fossil-based materials.

In addition to its environmental performance, the material offers high acoustic functionality. The porous structure of the mycelium network, combined with the fibres of cellulose-based substrates, allows effective sound absorption across a wide frequency range.

Myconom’s mycelium composites provide healthy and eco-friendly alternatives to traditional acoustic materials such as glass wool, polyurethane foam, and PET felt—all of which rely on petrochemicals, energy-intensive production, and often emit VOCs or other harmful substances. While delivering comparable mechanical and acoustic performance, Myconom’s materials are entirely natural, VOC-free, and safe for indoor environments, supporting improved indoor air quality.
