RARX
RARx is a recycled polymer additive for asphalt mixtures, containing 60% rubber powder. The rubber is pre-treated using a patented process before being incorporated into the asphalt mixture.
The material is added directly during asphalt production using a dry process. According to the manufacturer, this method allows relatively high quantities of RARx to be incorporated while avoiding some of the operational limitations associated with rubber-modified asphalt production.
RARx is intended to modify properties including fatigue resistance, rutting resistance, softening point and acoustic performance. The additive can be supplied in quantities suitable for relatively small asphalt production runs, where the use of polymer-modified bitumen (PMB) may be less practical.
Potential applications include roundabouts, bridges and roads exposed to intensive traffic. By incorporating recycled rubber powder into asphalt mixtures, RARx provides an application for recovered rubber within road construction.
