Reselo Rubber

Reselo Rubber is a patented biobased rubber polymer made entirely from birch bark. Developed in Sweden, the material uses birch bark residues from the pulp, paper and plywood industries, where this side stream is commonly used as fuel.

The birch bark is converted into a rubber polymer through a biorefinery process. The resulting fossil-free polymer can be blended with conventional rubber polymers, fillers and commonly used additives to create compounds with properties tailored to specific applications. This allows Reselo Rubber to be integrated into existing industrial rubber processing while increasing the renewable content of the final compound.

Depending on the formulation, the material can contribute to mechanical and functional performance alongside reducing reliance on fossil-derived rubber polymers. Potential applications include footwear, tyres and industrial rubber products.

Reselo Rubber has already been incorporated into commercially available footwear, concept tyres and prototypes for other industries. By converting an existing forestry industry residue into a higher-value polymer, the material provides an alternative use for birch bark and introduces a renewable feedstock into rubber manufacturing.
