Strotec Façade
The Strotec Façade is a prefabricated biobased façade system that combines timber construction and straw insulation in a single building element. The system uses EcoCocon straw panels, consisting of approximately 89% compressed straw and 10% FSC-certified timber. The panels themselves are 98% biobased.
Straw is a rapidly renewable agricultural material that can be harvested annually. By using straw and timber, the façade stores biogenic carbon while providing both structural and insulating functions. According to Strotec, the system stores more CO₂ than is emitted during its production.
The compressed straw provides high thermal insulation and helps regulate indoor temperature and humidity, reducing the energy required for heating and cooling. The straw is enclosed within the façade construction, preventing access by insects and rodents.
The lightweight façade elements are prefabricated and delivered fully finished to the construction site, where they can be installed quickly. This approach reduces on-site construction activities and supports low-emission building methods. Combining renewable materials, insulation and prefabrication, the Strotec Façade offers an alternative to conventional façade systems for biobased construction.
