Emy Benschop – From polluted soil to clean bricks
In 2019 the Dutch building sector was forced to halt by only four letters: PFAS – a chemical group better known as the ‘forever chemicals’. These chemicals are a health hazard and present in our soil, water and food-chain. So, how can we clean them up? Designer Emy Bensdorp developed a technique that transforms PFAS contaminated clay soil into clean bricks. During this talk she will take you through her design process from situation to solution and the continuation of material development.
