A table made of recycled sand glass concrete

Peruvian designer Victoria Hamann created a table made of concrete, in which waste sand glass was incorporated.

With the aim to use fewer plastic bottles in the city of Machu Picchu, more glass bottles are being used. However, transportation to a recycler is too expensive, which means that glass began to accumulate.

The Inkaterra Hotel in Machu Picchu, along with Peruvian multinational beverage company AJE Group, obtained a glass bottle grinding machine. However, even in sand form, the material is still too expensive to recycle.

To find a value for all the glass sand, Hamann decided to use the sand in concrete and make a furniture set for the Inkaterra Hotel. Called Moray, the design of the table was inspired by the Inca ruins at the archeological site Moray in Peru. The ruins consist of several terraced circular depressions, the largest of which is approximately 30 m (98 ft) deep. Like this archaeological site, the Moray table has a cascading design.
