The High-Altitude Handmade Hammock

This heart-stopping hammock was hand constructed in the Utah desert by a team of highliners and BASE jumpers.

Suspended more than 100 meters over the valley floor, the concept for this high-altitude hammock came from Andy Lewis, who spent eight years previous perfecting the craft of constructing aerial nets. Says Lewis, “I calculated the approximate size I wanted the net to be (~200 square meters) and acquired the proper materials to build it. This took a few years as well considering that every piece involved needed to be extremely strong, redundant and therefore expensive. “

The net was woven with over 4000 meters of brightly coloured cordage material, taking a team of 50 people three days to complete and install. And it incredibly strong, offering up to 15 people at a time a place for resting, admiring the landscape, high-lining and of course parachuting.
