For interior designers and product designers, the JEFFREY lamp presents a thoughtful fusion of aesthetic design and material innovation. This lighting fixture demonstrates how recycled materials can address modern needs for sustainability, functionality, and environmental responsibility in interior spaces. Designed by Dan Vakhrameyev, the JEFFREY lamp by +kouple utilises sound-absorbing recycled PET-felt, offering an appealing solution for spaces requiring both lighting and acoustic optimization.

Balancing Form and Function
A key feature of the JEFFREY lamp is its ability to reduce noise levels, creating a calming atmosphere ideal for contemporary interiors. The PET felt material, made from recycled plastic, serves as a sound-dampening surface while maintaining the lamp’s primary function as an efficient light source. This dual-purpose design makes the JEFFREY lamp a practical addition to open-plan offices, libraries, hospitality venues, and residential spaces.

Vakhrameyev’s design emphasises simplicity through geometric shapes. The sliced layers of PET-felt create a visually striking symmetry that enhances the lamp’s modern aesthetic. The six available colour options complement a variety of interior palettes, making it adaptable for diverse design schemes.

Customizable Patterns for Flexible Interiors
The JEFFREY lamp introduces a modular element with its adjoining panel feature, enabling multiple lamps to be combined into customized patterns. This functionality allows designers to tailor the acoustic and lighting properties to suit specific interior layouts. Whether used individually or as part of a larger installation, the lamp offers a versatile approach to enhancing ambiance.

Sustainability and Flat-Pack Design
Sustainability is central to the JEFFREY lamp’s design. The use of PET-felt aligns with circular design principles, as the material is derived from processed plastic waste. Partnering with the Kyiv-based Re:Quiet team, the designers emphasise the importance of integrating recycled materials into everyday products to reduce environmental impact and promote waste reduction.

The lamp’s components are engineered for flat-pack delivery, ensuring efficient transportation and reduced carbon emissions. Once delivered, the lamp can be easily reassembled into its volumetric form. The GU10 socket accommodates replaceable LED bulbs, providing energy efficiency and flexibility in lighting power, temperature, and beam angle.

Acoustic and Visual Comfort
Beyond its material innovation, the JEFFREY lamp excels in addressing two critical aspects of interior design: sound and light. The recycled PET-felt minimizes background noise, fostering an environment conducive to relaxation, focus, or conversation. Simultaneously, the customizable LED lighting ensures optimal illumination tailored to user needs.

A Showcase of Sustainable Design
The JEFFREY lamp has already found its place in the newly opened Readellion Bookstore in Kyiv, Ukraine. This installation highlights its effectiveness in creating an inviting and acoustically balanced space while showcasing the potential of recycled materials in high-quality design.
