Rificolona by Miniforms: A Recycled Lamp with Poetic Lightness

News · Story by MaterialDistrict · 11 Jul 2025 · 2 min read

Italian design brand Miniforms has introduced Rificolona, a new lamp collection created by Florence-based studio e-ggs. The design combines sustainability, elegance, and flexibility, making it especially appealing for interior architects and product designers who value eco-conscious innovation.

A Lamp Made from Waste

The shade of Rificolona is made entirely from recycled polyethylene (PE). This plastic comes from industrial and household waste. Before production, the material is sorted to ensure purity. Using only one type of plastic (a mono-material) allows it to be recycled over and over again.

Instead of burning the plastic, the designers melt it at a low temperature. This process is safer for the environment and keeps the material’s quality intact. As a result, the lamp reflects a truly circular approach to design.

Lightweight, Textured, and Translucent

The recycled plastic gives the lamp a soft, glowing effect. Light passes through the translucent shade, creating a warm and atmospheric look. To add texture, small fragments of the same material are sprayed onto the surface. These details create a subtle pattern and add depth to the design.

Thanks to its lightweight form and simple colour—called White Moon—Rificolona fits easily into many types of interiors, both private and public.

Flexible Design for Everyday Use

Rificolona was first developed as a ceiling lamp. It features a unique suspension system with a small black sphere that lets users tilt the lamp to any angle. This makes it easy to adjust the light to suit different moods or needs.

Today, the collection includes ceiling, floor, and desk versions in three sizes (Ø50, Ø80, and Ø120 cm). All versions share the same recycled material and minimalist design.

Why Rificolona Matters

Rificolona shows how recycled materials can be used in thoughtful, beautiful design. By turning plastic waste into a high-end lighting product, Miniforms offers a smart option for professionals who want to work sustainably without compromising on style.

Whether you’re designing a hotel, office, or home, this lamp can add both elegance and environmental value to your project.
