Leisure & Hospitality Exhibition: Yachts

As part of this season’s ‘Leisure & Hopsitality’ theme, Materia will be exhibiting some of the functional yet glamorous materials that are making a splash in the yacht design sector.

Materials for yacht construction must be lightweight and meet strict fire regulations. Thermal and acoustic insulation are also important considerations in selecting materials as are the lacquers and coatings used for yacht exteriors. Materials used for yacht interiors are expected to be especially luxurious but also lightweight and flexible. Honeycomb panels, balsa wood, fibre reinforced composites, leathers, veneers and and rich (but lightweight) woods are some of the materials commonly used.

Some of the materials to explore in this area include playful and colourful Freek Outdoor Carpet (PLA382) and the glamorous Floral Crocodile Leather Laminate (PLA340).

Some of our other guest materials used in superyacht designs by Foster and Partners as well as John Shuttleworth include carbon kevlar by 3Form, Nomex honeycomb panels and ultra-lightweight teak decking.

This autumn, relax and enjoy some of the most fabulous materials available in the Leisure and Hospitality industry at our Materia Inspiration Centre in Amsterdam.
