We’re at Milan Design Week: the loudest lamp ever

MaterialDistrict is still in Milan, where Sonos and Ikea launched their range of speakers Symfonisk, starting with “the loudest lamp ever”.

The Symfonisk range includes a table lamp with WiFi speaker and a bookshelf with build-in WiFi speaker. Both products are compatible with Sonos’ product range and can be steered through the Sonos app.

The table lamp combines sound and light, consisting of a rounded light diffuser at the top and a base that doubles as a speaker. The speaker is available with a white diffuser and a grey base, or a gold diffuser and a black base.

The bookshelf speaker is a rectangular speaker, which can double as a bookshelf, taking 3 kilograms with the bracket. This speaker also comes in grey and black.

“We knew from the start that we wanted to challenge the traditional high-tech aesthetics. The lamp-speaker partly springs from the idea of the fireplace – one single piece that spreads warm light as well as sound,” says Iina Vuorivirta, one of the designers of Symfonisk lamp-speaker at IKEA of Sweden.

While Ikea stands for the home furnishing knowledge and the design direction, Sonos has contributed with their profound sound skills.

“Our design had to be 100% true to the quality Sonos stands for, without any compromises. At the same time, we wanted to create something completely new,” says Vuorivirta.

Ikea and Sonos can be found at Torneria Tortona, Via Novi 5, during Milan Design Week for a sneak peek of the new Symfonisk range. The products will become available for sale in August 2019.
